International English language test system (IELTS) is the world's most popular English language test for higher education and global migration. IELTS is designed to test the language ability of people who want to study or work where English is used at the language of communication.
There are two category of IELTS general and academic the general test is taken by the purpose of job or any other reason of migration to the English speaking country, where as the academic test is taken for the purpose of higher studies.
There are four major steps i.e. Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.
Listening, reading and writing will be taken on the same day at a stretch that means you won't have any break in between the test which is for about 2 hours and 40 minutes. whereas speaking gonna take place on the same day or in the span of 7 days after or before the reading, listening and writing test. It depends on the schedule that you have get from IBP or British council.Let's start with listening now. listening will have 4 section these sections are in the order of difficulties that means the first section is going to be easiest one and the fourth section is going to be a little difficult one. It's a simultaneous process of listening and writing you need to answer these 40 question while you listen to the audio.
Let's move on to the reading now. Reading is different for general and academic test unlike listening and speaking. Reading has 3 sections for both general and academic. These are in the order of difficulties you will have a long passage each section based upon which you need to answer 40 questions.
Now let's look on writing. Writing will have two tasks. In general you will have a letter in task 1 and an essay in task 2 . In academic you will have text in task 1 and in task 2 you will have an essay. In both the test you will have 20 minute for tax 1 and 40 minutes for task 2 you must write at least 150 word for task 1 and 250 word for task 2, however there is no upper limits.
Now let's have a look on speaking. Speaking will have one to one interaction between the examiner and the candidate. which is recorded. Speaking has 3 sections.
section 1- A brief introduction
Section 2 - Individual speaking
In this the examiner will give you a topic to speak on. On which you will have to speak for 1 or 2 minutes. But don't worry you will have a minutes to prepare.
Section 3 - A discussion
Here the examiner will ask you about five to six questions based upon the topic that was given to you in section 2.
